Exporting K-1 Data Overview

You can export K-1 data from Partnership, S Corporation, and Fiduciary returns. The exported data can be imported directly into another return, or it can be exported to a Microsoft® Excel® spreadsheet.

Export to Other Returns

You can export K-1 data the following types of returns.

Data exported from this return type.... Can be imported into these types of returns...
Partnership Individual, Partnership, Corporation, S Corporation, or Fiduciary
S Corporation Individual or Fiduciary
Fiduciary Individual, Partnership, Corporation, S Corporation, or Fiduciary

The general process of exporting K-1 data from one return into another return is as follows:

  1. Set up the export.
  2. Export the data.
  3. Open the target return.
    • If you have edit rights for the return, you are prompted to import the updated K-1 data automatically.
    • If you close this prompt, but later want to do the import, select K-1 Data > K-1 from Other Returns in the Import group on the Import / Export tab. See Importing K-1 Data from Other Returns for detailed instructions.

Export to a Microsoft® Excel® Spreadsheet

You can export from the return types and entities shown in the following table. Please note that the data that is exported varies for the different return types. Detailed instructions for exporting to a spreadsheet are in the topic Exporting K-1 Data to a Spreadsheet.
